Queen of Apostles students ‘giving back’

January 2012

Queen of Apostles Elementary and Middle School students in all grades volunteer their time and talents to help people in need, not only during the “season of giving,” but throughout the year. The annual Thanksgiving food drive, spearheaded by the Student Council, is the largest service project for the whole school. Students collect and donate food and supplies for over 150 needy families. This year, kindergarten and first grade students made Thanksgiving cards and decorations for residents of the Marianist Center in Cupertino. The retired Fathers and Brothers there demonstrated their gratitude by writing “thank you” notes to the students.Another group of students conducted a beach clean-up day. One student stated that they are “trying to make improvements to our coast and together help care for our fragile marine environment.”Older students go to animal shelters and assist in the training and care of animals in order to make them more adoptable. Others volunteer at food banks by sorting and distributing food and supplies and others help out at church functions by assisting with set-up and clean-up.
